Can you use spray paint on paper?

I'm trying to create a stencil graffiti effect for an art project. Will it work to just use normal spray paint onto or will it make it too soggy?

If so can anyone recommend a way of getting a solid 'spray-paint' like effect on paper? Can you use spray paint on paper?
On plain old laser printer paper, yes it will start to warp. I would recommend doing this on something harder like poster board. If it absolutely needs to be on regular paper then hold the can about 18 inches away and spray lightly for in short bursts. Only a few bursts at a time then let it dry and repeat. It's going to take a while but if you can do a little at a time, the paint will dry on the paper before too much builds up at one time to start soaking in and warping the page.

Good luck.
