Is it safe to spray paint a birdcage to restore it? If so what type of spray paint should I use?

In general, look for paints which:

- do not contain lead, zinc or chromate

- are ';high adhesion';, formulated to bond with the metal surface

- are hard-wearing

- are fast drying

Another suggestion is to look on the back of the paint can and see if it is safe for a human baby. There usually is a picture of a mom holding a child's hand somewhere on the can.

While painting, be sure to:

- move bird to a separate room

- work in a well-ventilated area

- apply paint in a thin coat

- if you're using a spray paint, be sure to hold a large piece of paper or cardboard behind the cage, moving it as you go, to act as a backdrop which catches the excess paint.

I have included a link to a site that has information for youIs it safe to spray paint a birdcage to restore it? If so what type of spray paint should I use?
As a bird breeder of 24 years DJL's comment was very accurate! The best and safest brand to use is Krylon. It's the one brand that breeders have stuck with for many years as it's tested and proven not to containe the above mentioned chemicals.

It's fine, my mom has spray painted tons of my bird cages throughout the years and we haven't lost a bird to poison...or so I think...no LOL j/k. Try getting the kind that people do swingsets with and other things that children use. It's kind of plastic-like and doesn't chip. Good luck! :)
I'm pretty sure it would be poisonous to the birdie.
always better to get a new one cos birds peck at peinted cage and it may choke or poison it.its not worth it for price of cage
it would probably be okay, but you shouldn't put any birds in it for a while. Because birds can get sick really easily. My mom had a friend who's bird died because she sprayed stuff that was supposed to kill bugs
Yes it is fine to repaint a bird cage.Be sure it is well sanded apply a primer coat then your paint finished off with a couple of clear coats for hardening.Use non toxic water based acrylic paints.
