How do you properly dispose of a spray paint can?

I was painting a birdhouse and the spray paint can wasn't working. How do you dispose of one properly? How do you properly dispose of a spray paint can?
go out in the field away from the barn. Put down 5 or 6 crumpled pieces of newswaper, soak them in gasoline, set the plugged can in the middle, light the gasoline, run about 50 feet away, and shoot at the can while the fire is still burning. Keep the dogs up by the porch so they don't get hurt.

When you hit the can with a bullet, it will bust open, and the flames from the burning gasoline/newspaper will burn off the paint and the pressurized gas. it'll make a nice pop and a flash.

Let it burn out and cool. Retrieve the little rattle ball from inside the now blown-out can, wash it off in paint thinner, and let the kids play with it because it's basically a glass marble.

toss the ';defused'; can in the trash. Could technically be recycled because it's now just the same materials that a tin can is made of.

THis is how WE have always done it... I guess city folk without big areas to shoot and set off firebombs may have to do something a little different...... Maybe call the people that pick up your trash and ask them. How do you properly dispose of a spray paint can?
Your community should provide a hazardous waste disposal opportunity. Spray paint cans go will all other paint cans, used motor oil, batteries and so on. If you do not know of one call your garbage company or your city.county government for information.
turn it upside down and spray out all gas. Then discard it.
Girl please. Just throw it in the trash.
